Herbal Food Supplement Production Centre – Jaffna

  • Located at 417 Stanley Road, Jaffna, our Herbal Food Supplement Production Centre is dedicated to advancing health and wellness through natural remedies. This initiative is rooted in a clinical trial conducted at the Teaching Hospital Jaffna by a research team affiliated with the Teaching Hospital, Jaffna, the Faculty of Medicine, the University of Jaffna, and the University of Colombo, which validated the use of Gymnema lactiferum in managing diabetes. Details of the clinical trial and links to the publication website are included in the Research and Development section of this website. Building on this research, we specialise in packaging herbal teas and producing herbal capsules from the dried leaves of this remarkable plant.
  • Our mission is to deliver high-quality, locally sourced herbal supplements and teas that embody Sri Lanka’s rich traditions of natural healing. By harnessing the proven benefits of Gymnema lactiferum, we aim to support healthier lifestyles for both local and global communities. Beyond health, this project contributes to sustainable employment opportunities, strengthens economic development, and helps preserve Sri Lanka’s heritage of herbal supplements. We are proud to combine science, tradition, and innovation to create products that truly make a difference.

Gymnema lactiferum – A Heritage Plant for Modern Wellness

  •   Gymnema lactiferum, known as Cherukurinja in Tamil and Kurinnanin in Sinhala, has been used in Sri Lanka for centuries as both a leafy vegetable and a traditional remedy for diabetes. Widely found in the country’s dry forests, it is often cultivated by households in the Jaffna district, where its leaves are consumed raw or cooked. Historical records, including those of Sir James Emerson Tennent, the 5th Colonial Secretary of Ceylon in his office 1846–1850, wrote in his account of Ceylon (Sri Lanka) as G. lactiferum, "the cow plant of Ceylon, 'kiri-anguna,' yields a milk of which the Singhalese make use it for food; and its leaves are also used when boiled." ( Ref: James Emerson Tennent, Ceylon; an Account of the Island Physical, Historical, and Topographical with Notices of Its Natural History, Antiquities and Productions. 4thed. London: E-text prepared by Carnegie Mellon University, Juliet Sutherland, Leonard Johnson, and the Project Gutenberg Online Distributed Proofreading Team; 2004 Sept 28; 1 (of 2): 102).
  • Our company is cultivating Gymnema lactiferum in partnership with local farmers, purchasing their harvest to produce clinically validated herbal food supplements. To expand production, we are establishing herbal gardens in Jaffna and Kilinochchi, with government support anticipated. The project emphasises sustainability through organic farming, renewable energy, and waste management, while creating employment opportunities—particularly for women and youth.
  • By investing in community health and education programs, we aim to promote the benefits of herbal supplements and natural practices, with a special focus on managing diabetes. This initiative not only strengthens Sri Lanka’s health sector through research and development but also ensures long-term social and economic impact for northern communities.
